Swinton Man Dies in Surrey
Former Wombwell Schoolmaster
The sudden death on Monday of Mr Joseph Edwin Walton, at Surbiton, Surrey, will grieve his many friends in Swinton and Wath.
For four year and a half, Mr Walton was on the staff of Wombwell Modern School before his appointment in February, 1949, as Headmaster of Christ Church Primary School, Surbiton.
A native of Ribchester, near Preston, Mr. Walton was educated at Preston Grammar School, University College, Exeter, and the Bible Churchman’s Missionary and Theological College, Clifton, Bristol.
His first teaching appointment was at Brampton Ellis School, which he left in 1937 to take up a teaching appointment at Church Kirk, near Accrington. From 194 to 1944 he was at Maltby Craggs Council School, leaving in 1944 t to take up the Wombwell appointment. Mr. Walton was a prominent member of Bethany Church, Swinton.
He leaves a widow and two daughters.
