Swinton Favourably Placed

After dismissing Thorncliffe cheaply at Thorncliffe on Saturday, Swinton had made a satisfactory beginning in hitting off the required runs when the game ended. Thorncliffe were all out for 114, and Swinton had made 33 for 2 wickets when the players came off.

Thorncliffe lost a couple of good wickets with only 14 runs scored. A third wicket stand produced 61 runs from Eric Fletcher (39) and I. Baxter (17). A collapse followed, the last seven wickets only adding 39 runs, of which E. Marshall claimed 21. For Swinton, Briscoe took 3 wickets, all in one over, for 18 runs, I. Ellison had 2 for 32, Cadman 2 for 31, and Ellis 2 for 23.

Good Knock By Ivill

Rockingham entertained Denaby at Hoyland Common on Saturday, in what promised to be an interesting game. Batting first, Rockingham put on 138, of which 76 was contributed by J. Ivill, the captain, in a vigorous innings. His score contained 13 fours. Denaby had only time to score five runs before the game was concluded.

Mexborough Batsmen On Top

Despite the bowling changes Wath rang at Hampden Road on Saturday, Mexborough put on 207 for the loss of nine wickets before declaring. S. White (60), looked like leading the Mexborough scoring, but C. Bayes recaptured some of his best form to score an unbeaten 61. While Bayes got the runs, 15-year-old C. Ingham at the other end played an admirable defensive innings. C. Lawton (20), was the other outstanding scorer. Rippon and Senior opened for Wath, batting two overs and getting two runs.

Issue Undecided At Brampton

When Brampton’s home match with Rotherham came to an end on Saturday the position was very open. Rotherham, who took first knock, scored 172 (G. Root 50, L. Smelt 41), and in reply Brampton had lost two wickets in collecting 31 runs. Cavill had the best figures with the ball for Brampton, taking 4 for 36.

Hickleton Keep Runs Down

Hickleton spent the afternoon in the field at Firbeck on Saturday. The home side found runs none too easy to get against the Hickleton attack and their final total was 126 (R. Bacon 31, C. Taylor 26). Hickleton did not get a turn with the bat.
