Wombwell Peace Tea.

Club Entertain 1,800 Children.

At the Station Road Working Men’s Club on Monday  (Wombwell Feast), the gigantic task was accomplished of entertaining to tea, 1,800 children.

The young people ranged from 3 years to 14 years of age, and they were children of the members of the club.

The tea and the sports which followed, were arranged as a “peace treat,” A number of the children were seated in the concert room of the club, and another body were accommodated in a large hall in the basement.

The preparation and serving out of the meal naturally entailed a tremendous amount of work, but the committee assisted by their wives, worked away cheerfully, deriving great encouragement and satisfaction from the unfeigned happiness of their little guests.

At a later date, each child is to be presented with a ‘Peace Mug” Sports and gala, followed the tea and later in the evening, the Wombwell Town Prize Band played for dancing.
