Wombwell P.M. Stalwart
A fifty-years connection with Primitive Methodist work in the district was ended last week by the death of Mr. John Wood (69) 8, Main Street, Wombwell.
He was born at Roydhouse near Huddersfield and went to Wombwell as a young man, fired with enthusiasm for religious work. He joined the Primitive Methodists when they occupied the building at the top of Orchard Street, now a flour mill. For twenty-five years he was choirmaster.
Mrs. Wood, who survives him, was formerly Miss Myra Skinner, a member of a Worsboro’ family. His associations with the Primitive Methodist Church extend over 60 years.
There is one son, in London.
Mr. Wood was a member of the Oddfellows for 50 years, and of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association for 54 years.
