Death of Oldest Native of Wombwell

Mr. William Dobson (80) of 126, Station Road, Wombwell who died last Thursday was said to be the oldest native of Wombwell.

A son of James Dobson who was a winder at Wombwell Main Colliery, he was born at Wombwell Main, and started work at that colliery as an apprentice to a blacksmith. He remained there until his father died, and spent the rest of his working life at Darfield Main and Houghton Main, retiring when he was 65.

He had lived in the same house in Station Road from the time of his marriage 52 years ago, and Mrs. Dobson, who survives him, has lived in the house 58 years. Her maiden name was Annie Nettleton.
