Mr. Wood’s death will be greatly felt in Methodist circles throughout South Yorkshire. Born at Crigglestone, Mr. Wood commenced in the mines at the age of nine and never saw daylight for days on end.    He was one of six brothers and as a young man took a keen interest in Methodism.

He came to live at Wombwell in 1888, and moved to Thurnscoe in 1903. In the Wombwell Methodist (then Wesleyan) Church for fifteen years he was a faithful worker in its Sunday School.

He leaves a widow, three daughters and a son.  The funeral took place at Thurnscoe yesterday following a service in the Central Hall conducted by Rev. W. Henderson.
