Obituary – Walter Dransfield.
A well-known Wombwell resident, Mr Walter Dransfield (71), of 59, Cemetery Road, died in the Royal Hospital, Sheffield, on Sunday.
He was a native of Mirfield but lived in Wombwell 42 years, retiring five years ago.
He was employed at Darfield Main for 40 years for a considerable part of that time he was a deputy. In his youth he was widely known as a musician. At 14 years of age he was appointed organist at the Hartshead Parish Church, retained the position to the age of 23.
Moving to Wombwell he played for dancing classes at the Conservative club in conjunction with the late Mr. J. Ibbotson. He was a prominent member of the popular concert party conducted by Mr. Walter Elliott, of Darfield. He was a member of the Conservative club ever since he moved into the district and for a period of time on the committee. He was also attached the reform club.
The interment took place at Wombwell yesterday, the Rev. J. St. Leger Blakeney officiating. There was a representative in attendance and wreaths were received from the Conservative and reform club.
