Obituary – Mr. Walter Coulsey Hill

The death has occurred of Mr. Walter Coulsey Hill (47), 164, Hough Lane. Wombwell, who was a member and secretary of the Wombwell Male Voice Choir, and for thirty years was identified with practically every choral movement in the district.
He had a delightful tenor voice. He sang mostly for love of music and through his talent assisted organisations. including the benevolent movement of R.A.O.B., of which he was a member. He took leading part in the organisation of Wombwell’s first and only music festival.
He was a member of the Harmel Vocal Quartet, the other members of which were Miss Mabel Booth, Miss E. Willmott and Mr. Arthur Thomas. Latterly he was a member of a quartet in which he sang with Mr. Wilfred Booth, one of his greatest friends, Mr. J. Taylor and Mr. Arthur Kaye. For many years he was a member of the Congregational choir.
Apart from music his greatest pleasure was in cricket. For many years he was captain of the Low Valley Wesleyan team.
A fortnight ago, he had a seizure and was assisted home. He was thought to be recovering but on Sunday morning, while helping to prepare breakfast for the family, he again collapsed and died. Dr. Mosbery arrived just before be passed away. Mr. Hill was formerly a surface-worker at Wombwell Main but latterly was out of work. He leaves a widow and four children.
