Wombwell lost a prominent townsman on Wednesday by the death of Mr. Thomas Muscroft Thornsby at his home 19, Prospect Terrace, at the age of 77.

He was a well-known printer and vice-president of the South Yorkshire Club Union. He leaves two daughters and a son.

He was born at Aldham, and commenced work in a foundry at Worsborough. Later, he worked at the old Lundhill Colliery as a blacksmith till it closed down. He went into business as a newsagent and tobacconist in Wombwell, and in 1881 established a printing business. He was for many years a member of the School Board and the Local Board. He was a staunch Liberal.

His chief sporting interests were football, fishing and shooting. For many years he was a Second Division referee and a First Division linesman. He earned wide esteem for his zeal in the promotion of club activities.

For 23 years he was vice-president of the South Yorkshire Club Union and for fifteen years a member of the National Executive. With the late Mr. J. W. Johnson, formerly president of the Union, he laid foundation stones of many clubs. After 21 years’ service he was presented with a gold medal, secretaire and clock. The funeral is at Wombwell to-morrow (Saturday).
