Win For Weakened Mitchell

Mitchell Main strengthened their lead in the table on Saturday by a victory over Rockingham at home.  Mitchell Main had to field a weaker side than usual owing to the absence of Colin Kilner, Fieldhouse and Smith. Kilner and Fieldhouse had to be excluded on account of illness.

Both teams were smart in the field, Lax particularly being prominent for Rockingham.  Lax, who played with Barnsley last football season, was making his first appearance for Rockingham.  The highest score was made by Bramley, the 16-year-old Rockingham player, who scored 44 before he was caught by Broadhead.

Opening the Mitchell Main innings, Holliday and Burkinshaw scored 34 before they were dismissed by Gill.  Burkinshaw was top scorer for the home team, Utting being next.

The Mitchell Main bowlers were on their usual form, the averages of Broadhead, Utting and Taylor being 3 for 27, 2 for 20 and 3 for 8 respectively.  The best of the Rockingham bowlers were Woolley 3 for 27 and Gill 3 for 45.
