As a token of appreciation for his work In connection with the development of the Miners’ Welfare scheme in the Wombwell Main district, Mr Sydney Smith has been presented with a Westminster chiming clock by the trustees.

Mr. Smith has served as secretary since the inception of the scheme.

Through it there has been provided and furnished a playing field at Wombwell Main.

The presentation was made at Wombwell Main Colliery by Councillor F. Collindridge, who, along with Councillors J W. Mellor and G. Snell expressed warm appreciation of Mr. Smith’s work, The clock was suitably inscribed.

Mr. Smith has been closely identified with sport in Wombwell for many years, and is at present secretary of the Wombwell Evening Cricket League. He is a teacher on the staff of the John Street. Council Schools.
