This year, spring begins on Good Friday.


A new picture palace is to be opened at Wath on Monday.


Wath Swimming Club will re-open for the season on Tuesday, April 1st.


The proceeds of the Salvation Army tea, held last Saturday, amounted to nearly £30.


Both the Wath and Bolton Councils have decided to acquire land for housing purposes.


At local churches a large number of weddings are due to be solemnised during Easter-tide.


Most of the local collieries and works will close down from Thursday to Tuesday next for the Easter holidays.


Mexboro’ Council have decided to appoint a Sanitary Inspector at a commencing salary of £100 per annum.


David Murray, the Mexboro’ full-back, has been removed to the Conisboro’ Hospital suffering from typhoid fever.


Wath Main miners have contributed £25 towards a wedding present for their general manager, Mr. B. Pickering.


Mr. John Cocks, of Mederley, Warwickshire, took up his duties on Monday, as manager of the Cadeby Main Colliery.


Mr. H. S. Witt, whose place he takes, has been transferred to Denaby Main.


Efforts are being made to reorganise the Mexboro’ Institute, Ltd., and to establish the organisation on a better footing.


Very little interest is being taken in local elections. Possibly matters will become livelier when the Easter holidays are over.


The Mexboro’ and District Operatic Society lost £11 on their production of “Mikado” in January.


Councillor Winstanley, who has been musical director of the Society from its formation in 1905, has intimated his intention of resigning.


The Mexboro’ Council are negotiating for a purchase clause to be inserted in the Mexboro’ Water Company’s present Parliamentary Bill.


The St. Patrick’s ball at Wath, on Monday, was well patronised. Likewise was the concert promoted by the loyal Irishmen at Denaby Main.


The Mexboro’ and district butchers are fixing up a “day” excursion to Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight, on Mexboro’ Feast Monday, June 2nd.


Re-organisation proposals have been submitted with a view of retaining the financial stability and usefulness of the West Riding Miners’ Permanent Relief Fund.


A public meeting was held at Wath on Wednesday evening to obtain an opinion as to the advisability of introducing a service of railless cars into the township.


Lady Mabel Smith, of Maltby Hall, is candidate at the forthcoming Rotherham Rural District Council election, having been nominated to represent Maltby.


Interesting presentations were made on Saturday evening, at Denaby Main, to Mr. John Soar, who recently retired from the service of the Denaby and Cadeby Collieries.


The members of the Wombwell fire brigade rendered effective service at the fire at Wombwell last Thursday, but it is said that they are equipped with out-of-date appliances.


As usual, Conisboro’ will be the Mecca of thousands of holiday-makers on Good Friday, although the popularity of this historic village as a holiday resort is distinctly on the wane.


A marble clock and bronzes were presented on Saturday night by the Mexboro’ branch of the Winding and General Engineers’ Society to Mr. G. Woodison, the retiring secretary.


General regret is expressed at the decision of Mr. J. A. Bower, of Swinton Hall, who has decided to retire from public work, after very many years of disinterested and most useful service.


Raids have been made on local gambling schools, with the result that 21 pit-bands from Wath, Swinton, Mexboro’, and Adwick were brought before the magistrates at Doncaster, and fined.


Mr. Hosa, the manager of the Goldthorpe Empire, attended a meeting of the Mexboro’ Hospital Committee on Saturday, and promised to try and raise £25 per year towards the Children’s Ward fund.


The Courts of the Mexboro’ new Lawn Tennis Club are now completed, and it is expected to begin play early in May. Applications for membership are now being received by the secretaries.


Now is the opportunity for the young men of Mexboro’ to show their loyalty to their King and country by coming forward to help to form a company of the National Reserve and Territorials at Mexboro’.


The Right Hon. J. A. Pease, M.P., addressing a meeting of teachers in Sheffield on Saturday, made an important speech, in which he gave an outline of the new legislation which is promised to deal with the Education question.


Arthur Carr, the well-known all-round cricketer, of Darfield, has been signed as professional for Mexboro’ next season. The Mexboro’ club still want a good all-round man to act as groundsman and professional, and are willing to receive applications from local cricketers.


The Mexboro’ Council, in their opposition to the Mexboro’ and Swinton (Railless Traction) Bill have retained Mr. J. Vickers, K.C., or in the alternative, the Hon. H. Lloyd, K.C., who represented them in opposition to the Mexboro’ and Swinton Gas Bill of 1905, and opposed them in the Gas Arbitration of 1911.


The Social and Dance in the St. George’s Sunday School on Thursday next, the 27th inst., in aid of the National School premises promises to be a great success. Tickets one shilling each.


The Great Central Railway are running an excursion to Redcar and Saltburn on Whit Monday and Tuesday. Clubs and outings parties can be catered for.
