Messrs. Ward and Sons, mineral water manufacturers, of Swinton, are erecting a large new bottling store.
The evening classes held at Mexboro’ last year resulted in a deficit of £44 5s., which the Council have decided to pay.
It is expected that the Swinton Glassworks, purchased by Messrs. Dale, Brown and Co., will be opened early in the New Year.
The figure published in our last issue for the traffic on the Rotherham and Maltby cars during October should have read 30,000.
We understand that Mr. Fine, the late manager of Silverwood Colliery, now of Russia, intends to spend Christmas in South Yorkshire.
The late Mr. C. H. Evans, of Ye Olde Masons’ Arms, Mexboro’, was for several years a member of the Mexboro’ Urban District Council.
The pantomime season commences in full force next week. Some attractive programmes are provided at the local places of amusement.
A meeting of the electors of Mexboro’ will be held on January 6th to approve of the application by the Council to acquire the water undertaking.
In order to encourage the use of electricity for cooking and heating Mexboro’ Council have further reduced the price charged for a supply of electric current.
The phenomenal weather experienced recently has permitted several enthusiastic members of the Mexboro’ Tennis Club to play tennis daily on the hard court.
It was reported at a meeting of the Doncaster and Conisboro’ Joint Hospital Board, on Thursday, that there were 93 cases in the hospital, the largest number ever reported.
It is expected that the inquiry to be conducted by the Light Railway Commissioners into the Dearne Valley Light Railway scheme will be held towards the end of January.

Wombwell property owners have not succeeded in their efforts to persuade the Wombwell Council to allow the fifty per cent. rebate on the district rate on houses assessed at net £10, which are to weekly or monthly tenants.
Most people agree that the present system of computing “empties” an owner is entitled to avoid working-class house taxation is absurd.
The treasurer of the Mexboro’ Montagu Hospital gratefully acknowledges the receipt of £18 9s. 8d. collected at the Hickleton Main Prince of Wales Theatre, per the kindness of the manager, Mr. Harry Layton.
At a meeting of the local lodges of the Sheffield Equalised Druids, at Swinton, the compensation grant was made to Bro. I. Prince, of the Duke of Mexboro’ Lodge, and Bro. Geary, of the “Athron’s Pride” Lodge.
At Hallamshire Dog Show on Saturday, the local prize-takers included Mr. J. Rawson, Mexboro’; Mr. Holmes, Bolton; Mr. C. Mitchell, Bolton; Mr. A. Farmery, Rawmarsh; Mr. A. Wilson, Penistone; Mr. J. Brooks, Wombwell; Mr. F. J. Law, Mexboro’; and Mr. J. D. Taylor, Wombwell.
Lord Halifax, speaking at a Wath bazaar, and referring to the great schemes of social improvement, said that people talked about improvements who had only their own axes to grind. The only security for real improvement was that these schemes should have religion at the bottom of them.
