Three inquests were held in the Mexboro’ district on Thursday.
The parishioners of Swinton will hold their parochial gathering on Shrove Tuesday.
The annual treat to the old folk of Swinton was held on Thursday.
The annual meeting of the Fullerton Hospital, Denaby Main, was held on Monday evening.
There were about 75 competitors at Miss Montagu’s baby show at Mexboro’ on Monday.
An extremely interesting Conisboro’ case was heard in the Doncaster County Court on Tuesday.
Mexboro’ and District Plate-Glass Insurance Society have decided to give a bonus of 33 1-3 per cent. to policy-holders.
Mr. Fred Smith, assistant overseer of Swinton for the past 17 years, has tendered his resignation owing to ill-health.
The Mexboro’ and District Trades and Labour Council is already preparing for local elections.
At Monday’s meeting secretaries were appointed to watch the interest of labour representation in the various townships.
The West Melton Miners’ Glee Society are making very good progress, and before long will be giving an exhibition in some local centre.
There were only 38 cases on the charge sheet at the Barnsley West Riding Court on Wednesday, and the business was concluded in half-an-hour.
We congratulate Miss Frances Adkins, pupil of Mr. W. Winstanley, who has passed the Cambridge Senior Local examination, held in December.
The Conisboro’ annual ball will be held in the Station Road Schools on Tuesday. This is usually one of the most enjoyable social functions of the year.
It is sincerely hoped there will be large attendances at the Mexboro’ Hippodrome for the last two performances of “The Mikado.” It is an excellent production.
Warren Vale Colliery was set down half-a-day on Tuesday under the impression that a man had been killed on the previous day. Happily the man is still alive.
South Kirkby Cricket Club applied for admission to the Yorkshire Council, but their application was refused because the train service was hardly convenient.
Since the publicity given to the banning of “Tom Jones” by the Doncaster Library Committee, there have been great enquiries for the book at Mexboro’ Free Library.
We are requested to state that on and after mid-day, February 1st, the office of the health visitor will be closed, and the mothers’ school and provident club discontinued until further notice.
Mr. Taylor, a Canadian Government farm delegate from Calgary, will attend the “Mexboro’ Times” Office to-day (Friday) and to-morrow (Saturday) to interview intending emigrants to Canada.
In response to the request of the Lord Lieutenant, Swinton Council have recommended the names of Mr. F. L. Harrop, Mr. A. J. Bower, and Mr. J. Bingham for appointment as Justices of the Peace.
A general meeting of the shareholders in the Swinton and Mexboro’ Gas Co. will be held at the Swinton Gasworks on the 26th of February. Presumably this will be the last meeting of the concern.
The parishioners of Wombwell have decided to complete the Parish Church by the addition of a tower and porch. Messrs. Hadfield, of Sheffield, are the architects, and the estimated cost is £2,400, towards which £1,400 has been raised.
The Swinton Sanitary Inspector has reported to his Council that the tenants in certain street in Swinton are keeping between them pigs, fowls, ducks, goats, dogs, donkey, pony, ferrets, etc., in such a condition as to be a nuisance.
Tom Thorpe, the Mexboro’ cricket professional, has asked to be released from his agreement, having been offered a good engagement on the ground staff of the Northampton County Club, with a fair prospect of playing in County cricket next season.
The Alpha Male Quartette Party are giving a musical hour at Mexboro’ Congregational Church on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. At the evening service Mr. V. Chambers (alto) is to be the soloist.
