Barnsley Woman Sent For Trial and Refused Bail.

Pleading guilty and reserving her defence, Annie Ellis (39), married woman, of , 60, Wilthorpe Avenue, Barnsley, was committed for trial by the Barnsley magistrates yesterday, when she was charged with the manslaughter of Eva Wilkinson (29), wife of Thomas Wilkinson, of 13 George Street, Wombwell.

Superintendent Blacker said that in addition to evidence regarding Mrs. Wilkinson he would call two other women. It was arising out of these two cases that prisoner performed an operation on Mrs. Wilkinson which resulted in her death.

After several witnesses had been called, Dr. Jardine said that at 8 p.m. on November 10th he saw Mrs. Wilkinson in dying condition. Death was due to shock. Symptoms which he found were consistent with an operation of some sort having been performed.

Dr. P. L. Sutherland, pathologist for the West Riding County Council, said the postmortem examination revealed that the woman’s death was due to shock from haemorrhage.

Prisoner was refused bail.
