Living of Hardenhuish

Church people in Wombwell will be pleased to hear that the Reverend G.L. Carter, M.A. has been offered and accepted the living of Hardenhuish, Chippenham, Wilts.

Mr Carter spent five and half years as a curate in Wombwell, for the greater part of that time had charge of St George’s, Jump.

Recently he was appointed by the Bishop to the curacy of the new conventional district of St. Leonard’s, Norwood, Sheffield, and had already taken up residence in the City. At that time there was a remote possibility of the Wiltshire living being offered him.

He accepted the Sheffield appointment on the understanding that if the offer of the living matured he would be released immediately.

Hardenhuish is a pretty agricultural district. The name is pronounced locally ” Harden-ish.”
