Gardener, 80, Dies after Collapse
Willie Milner, 80-year-old gardener at Wombwell Main Colliery, finished a full week of six shifts at noon on Saturday, twelve hours later he collapsed and died.
He had worked at Wombwell Main without a break for 68 years, being groom, gardener, and chauffeur to a succession of directors and managers.
He made Wombwell Main a thing of beauty by constructing flower beds and shrubberies in the pit yard.
A bachelor, he had lived in the same house for 70 years.
