Fire at Wombwell Farm

Late on Tuesday night a fire was discovered in the barn, at a farm occupied by Mr John Heathcote, Park Street, Wombwell. How it originated is unknown.

Mr Heathcote was past the place about an hour before the fire was discovered when all appeared to be right.

The Wombwell Fire Engine gave a very efficient service, but was unable to save the building, the roof of which came in. About nine tons of straw were destroyed, and a calf smothered, the damage being about £200.
