32 Years Clerk to Council
Death of Mr. P. M Walker
Mr. Percy Milnes Walker (59), on Wombwell Grange, near Barnsley, for 32 vears clerk to Wombwell Urban District Council, died on Saturday morning.
He had been in failing health for some months, but attended his office the day before his death. In sympathy the flag was flown at half-mast on Wombwell Town Hall and other public buildings on Saturday.
Mr Walker was son of the late Mr. Walker, a descendant of a family of South Yorkshire yeomen, for many years settled at Kexborough, near Barnsley, where Mr. Walker was born. Articled as a solicitor with Messrs. Bury and Walkers. Barnsley, he became a principal of the firm, with his brother, Alderman H. M. Walker a member of the Barnsley Town Council.

Mr. Walker had been Clerk to the Wombwell U.D.C. since October 1904. His only son, Mr. Kex Milnes Walker, was appointed Joint Clerk with him in 1934. Father and son were also joint Clerks to the Dearne and Dove Internal Drainage Board, and Mr. P. M. Walker was clerk to the Wombwell Town land Trustees, Deputy Registration officer for the Wentworth Parliamentary Division, and clerk to the Wombwell Old Age Pensions Committee. He was also solicitor to the Barnsley Co-operative Society.
With Mrs. Walker he was Joint president the Old Peoples’ Treat movement, and took a close and generous interest in Wombwell Parish Church.
Mrs. Walker was formerly Miss Henrietta Littlewood, a daughter of the late Rev John Henry Littlewood, for many years Vicar of Felkirk near Barnsley. Their children are Mr. K. M. Walker, Mrs. H. K. Abell, of Bexhill on-Sea, and Miss Marjorie Walker.
The interment will follow a service at Wombwell Parish Church tomorrow.
