An Old Mitchell Mainer

Death of Mr. Tom Robinson

A link with cricket history in the Wombwell district was severed on Friday, when the death occurred of Mr. Tom Robinson (62), steward of the Conservative Club.

Mr. Robinson was a member of the old cricketing school. Born at Cawthorne, he came to Wombwell at the age of ten, and had lived in the town 52 years.

He was employed at the Mitchell Main Colliery for thirty years before becoming steward of the Conservative Club seven years ago. He was one of the founders of the Wombwell Conservative Club, and travelled about much on executive business in connection with the Conservative and Unionist Association.

His association with Mitchell Main cricket extended over twenty years. For many seasons he was captain of the Mitchell Main second team. He leaves a widow, four sons, and one daughter. One of his sons was killed in the war.

The interment took place at Wombwell on Tuesday, the Rev. J. E. Broadbent conducting the service. There was a large and representative attendance of mourners, and the coffin was carried by the following members of the Conservative Club: Messrs. T. Jenkinson, A. Jones, E. Gleadall, R. Walker, G. Wilson, J. Thickett, G. Renton, and A. Dook.

The numerous floral tokens included wreaths from the Conservative Club and the Wombwell Thursday Cricket Club.
