 Signal Man’s Death at Wombwell

Forty years’ service as a signal man on the L.N.E.R. has been terminated by the death Mr. Tom Harrop, aged 61, of Littlefield Lane, Wombwell.

Mr. Harrop was at work in his signal box at Elsecar Junction between Wombwell and Wath-on-Dearne as recently as Sunday.

A native of Wombwell, he started his career on the railway at Hexthorpe, near Doncaster, and for the past eight years has had charge of the Elsecar Junction box.

For 20 years he has been secretary of the Wombwell branch the National Union of Railwayman and delegate for that area. At one time he was director of the Wombwell Midland League football club
