A Coming Champion?

Wombwell Player’s 183 Break

Is it possible that someday Wombwell will have a billiards champion of national repute? This hope is encouraged by an achievement recorded this week by Jack Watkin. son of Mr. William Watkin, steward of the Reform Club. Wombwell.

Playing in a match on Monday evening. Watkin amazed the onlookers by making a break of 183! Watkin has been a prominent figure in Wombwell and district billiards for two or three seasons but in recent months has shown wonderful skill and technique.

Last season he showed promise of gaining honours in the Wombwell and District Amateur billiards and snooker championships. but was unlucky to having to draw through illness.

This season he is having another try, and has already won his first-round tie with a score of 250 against 91. A break of 183 is by far the best ever made in local billiards. He is an all-round sportsman and was a regular playing member of the championship-winning Wombwell Thursday cricket team until he contracted scarlet fever and had to drop out.
