Obituary – Mr Barrett
Mr. Walter Arthur Barrett, for 27 years enquiry officer at Wombwell under the West Riding County Council education authority, died just before midnight on Christmas Eve at, the age of 65.
He had had a long illness and in July 1938 had to retire from duty on breakdown pension. After living in Hough Lane, Wombwell, for thirty years he and Mrs, Barrett went to reside in one of the Council bungalows in Tune Street, off Copeland Road, Wombwell, about twelve months ago.
Mr. Barrett leaves a widow and two sons and one daughter, all married. Mr. Barrett was born at Low Valley, his father Mr. Jacob Barrett being a miner at Darfield Main. Mr. Barrett himself spent his early working days in the mine, being employed at Houghton Main and Darfield Main.
He had been a member of the Oddfellows Friendly Society from boyhood.
The interment took place at Wombwell Cemetery yesterday (Thursday) the service being conducted by Canon J. St. Leger Blakeney, Rector of Wombwell.
