May 1937

Mexborough and Swinton Times May 28, 1937

A boyhood dream of Mr Sidney Wright, the 22 year old son of Mr and Mrs Joe Wright, of Knollbeck Lane, Cortonwood was to possess his own miniature fairground. When he became associated with draughtsmanship at a technical college, his enthusiasm ripened with the possibility of the fair being manufactured by his own hands.

Seven years have passed since those initial stages, until today Mr Wright can put before as his own pleasure part of steam horses, Noah’s Ark, shooting range, flying chairs, cakewalk, coconut shies and sheets, boxing booth, fortune teller, darts stall and freak shows.

All his own craftsmanship with each individual section representing hours and hours of labour. Wright’s amusements, like those known to every child, change with the times, and as new devices are created in the world’s fairs so they will eventually appear at Cortonwood.
