Worsboro’ U.D.C. Clerk
Wombwell Man Appointed Mr. Donald E. Nash (38), of Kingsway, Wombwell, is the new full-time clerk of the Worsborough U.D.C.
He was appointed on Monday and will take up his new duties early in August. Also on the short list for the post were Messrs. Alderson, of Hartlepool, Dean, of Workington, and Lomas, of Colne Valley.
Mr. Nash will succeed Captain C. M. Clegg, of Messrs. Dibb and Clegg, solicitors, Barnsley, who since has held the post 1925.
The appointment of a full – time clerk at Worsborough is an innovation made necessary by increased pressure of administrative business. The post carries a salary of £450 a year, rising by four annual increments of £25 a year to £550.
Mr. Nash was born at Bexley Heath, Kent. From 1916 to 1922 he was Clerk in the office of Mr. H. P. Russell, solicitor, of Bexley Heath. From 1922 to 1926 he was committee clerk to the Bexley Urban (now Borough) Council.
In 1926 he was appointed managing clerk for Messrs. Bury and Walkers, solicitors, at their Wombwell Office, acting as assistant to the Clerk of the Wombwell Urban Council, first Mr. P. M. Walker and later Mr. K. M. Walker. In that capacity Mr. Nash has maintained close touch with all phases of local government in the area, and has assisted in the administrative work of the Dearne and Dove Internal Drainage Board, in which Worsborough are interested.
He has carried out national registration, has gained much experience in election work—national, county and local—and has been closely in touch with the local food office. This experience will be of considerable value at Worsborough, which in character is not unlike Wombwell, though of a slightly smaller population.
Mr. Nash is a lieutenant and battalion transport officer in the Home Guard. He is married and has two boys, both pupils of Mexborough Secondary School.
