Wombwell Track Licence: Council to Object

Wombwell Urban District Council have decided to object to the renewal of the licence for greyhound racing on Hough Lane Track, Wombwell and have instructed their Clerk (Mr. F. Potter) attend the hearing the application at Wakefield next month.

The licensing authority is the West Riding County Council, Formerly the ground of the Wombwell Midland League Football Club, the track was adapted for greyhound racing some time before the war and housing schemes have developed round it.

The stadium is held on a 21 year lease and the present directors are Mr. W. Tyrrell, of Wickersley, Rotherham, and Mr. Frank Hopkinson, of Conisbrough.

The present licence will expire on June 30 and the track proprietors have put an application for its renewal in the ordinary way.

Most of the dogs running at the track are privately owned and the meetings are held Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
