The final was played on the Dodworth Station Inn green, which was in excellent condition but exceptionally fast. Sir George’s made a good start, the captain. H. Hinchcliffe, coming in first with a 21-13 victory. Of the first seven matches to finish Wombwell won six.

At the conclusion Mrs. Howard, of Wombwell Main, presented the trophy to H. Hinchcliffe. Mr. R. Banks, secretary of the Barnsley Association, who refereed the match, explained how the Consolation Cup competition originated, and the captain of the winning team congratulated the losers on their sporting spirit. Sir George’s had tried hard to win competitions, but never before had success.

In each of the three previous seasons Wombwell Parks won the trophy, defeating Sir George’s in the final last year by only six points.
