Coronation of Their New Queen.

This is the -line-up” for Wombwell Sunday Schools’ Whitsuntide “Sing” and gathering to be held on Monday.

The Queen is Pamela Gentle of Lundhill Wesleyan Reform Church (picture), and her attendants will be Janice Cooling (Mount Tabor W.R..), Elaine Jackson (Salvation Army). Ann Elliott (Zion W.R.) and Carol Haywood (Broornhill Methodist) with David Holliday (Barnsley Road Methodist) as Page. Retiring Queen is Janet Wroe

Wombwell Corps of the Salvation Army and Wombwell Church Lads’ Brigade.

At a gathering in the Feast field in Park Street, the queen will be crowned by Mrs. D. Fowler. Chairman will be the Rev. F. L. R. Graham. Rector of Wombwell and community hymn singing will be conducted by Mr. H. Wood. Following the crowning and “Sing.” the procession will move out of the top entrance, to proceed via Kings Road, Gower Street, High Street, Barnsley Road, John Street, Blythe Street, Cemetery Road and Summer Lane, scholars falling out of the procession at their respective Sunday schools to be entertained to tea and games.

The queen and her retinue will be guests of honour at Lundhill Wesleyan Reform Sunday School.

Because this year Whitsuntide coincides with Spring Bank holiday, the event will revert to Monday. Last year it was for the first time, held on a Saturday because Whitsuntide was not a Bank Holiday.

“Floats”
Some 2000 scholars from 11 Sunday Schools will take part in a procession through the streets of Wombwell, the queen and attendance, and younger scholars, being accommodated on decorated vehicles. Older scholars and officials will march to music provided by the bands of the Salvation Army and the Church Lads Brigade
