Four Wins on the Trot!

Wombwell Give Kiveton Run Around

Wombwell S.A. 6, Kiveton Park 1

Wombwell continued their successful ways, making it four on the trot, the best run they have had this season, when they beat Kiveton Park 6-1 at Wombwell on Thursday in the Yorkshire League (Division 1).

The Kiveton ‘keeper was called on on to tip the ball over from Launders in the very first minute, then the right back broke up another promising move by Ormroyd. In the ninth minute Lipscombe, under pressure, tried to clear but only managed to put terrific spin on the ball. The ‘keeper made to catch it but it spun out of his grasp into the net.

Now at Wombwell’s end, Pearce gave away a corner trying to find Wilson, but nothing came of it.

Beadle, with a good header from a cross from Caunt put. Wombwell two up after 17 minutes. Following this, the Kiveton ‘keeper brought off a good save from an Ormroyd shot. Kiveton’s Finney was next to come near but Wilson ably dealt with this. With a perfect lob Oliver put Wombwell further ahead after 25 minutes.

Almost from the kick-off Kiveton pulled one back, the right winger moving inside to put a lovely ball through to the inside man, who had moved out to the wing, and from his perfect cross Fox headed home—a very well executed move. Four minutes later Oliver scored his second goal with a spectacular overhead kick right under the angle which gave the ‘keeper no chance. Ormrod put in another good shot but this hit the side netting.

In Their Stride

After the interval Oliver came close to scoring his third when a header was cleared off the line. Now holding a good lead. Wombwell were taking things comfortably Derrick Allen substituted for Len Briscoe at left-back. From good running and a “made to measure” crass from Oliver, Wild headed No. 5 for Wombwell. Not to be outdone. Caunt did exactly the same thing and Wild obliged again with another header, making up the half dozen.

No further goals came and Wombwell ran out comfortable winners in this very sportingly-played match. Teams:
