Wombwell Rabbit Custom.

William Barker, greengrocer, Wombwell, was at Barnsley West Riding Police Court, yesterday, fined £5 and costs for breach of the Wild Rabbits Prices Order, 1918.

Superintendent McDonald explained that the maximum price of rabbits at Wombwell on the day in question was 10 ½ d per lb., and, that this included the skinning, packing and all charges.

A man named James Oliver bought a rabbit from defendant, who skinned it and retained the skin. The man paid 2s. 6d. for the unskinned rabbit which weighed 2bs.

Mr. Rideal, for the defence, submitted it was the custom to  weigh the rabbits with the skin on. He pointed out the control price of rabbits Barnsley at this time was 11 ½ d. per lb. and that the man in question bought the rabbits from defendant at 10d. per lb
