Wombwell Operatic Chairman Has Leg Amputated

Friends of Mr Sam Patterson, chairman of Wombwell and District Amateur Operatic Society will regret to hear that he is in the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London and has had his left leg amputated.

He went to London in early December, to attend the Smithfield Show in connection with his interest in refrigeration, when thrombosis developed. But it was not until a fortnight ago that it was found necessary to amputate his leg.

He is now cheerful and making good progress towards recovery.

Mr Patterson has been interested in the amateur stage in the Dearne Valley for over 40 years and holds a long service medal for the National Operatic and Dramatic Association which is a counsellor he is also actively connected with the Dearne District Operatic Society which his sister Jesse Pollard is secretary.

Mr Patterson lives with his sister at 3, Fitzwilliam Avenue, Wath upon Dearne. He is a partner in the firm of Thompson and Patterson, electricians, Wath upon Dearne.
