A happy reflection of a practical bond between home and school was the presence of some 250 parents at the Middle School, Wombwell, on Thursday evening for the annual speech day

This event was inaugurated a year ago and its value has already been proved. Teachers, parents and pupils alike look upon the event as something of a reunion. Very proud were the girls -who walked up for the awards presented by Alderman Miss Unwin and very proud also were the mothers and fathers.

The senior championship was won by Brenda Spooner (picture), the thirteen-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs R Spooner, of Hough Lane, Wombwell.
