Wombwell Man’s £40 Arrears

When Hilda Turnbull, Wombwell, summoned her husband Harry Turnbull bricklayer, Scarborough, at Barnsley on Wednesday in respect of wife maintenance arrears, it was stated that the arrears amounted to £40 15s under an order for the payment of 25s a week made in September, 1931.

Mrs. Turnbull said defendant sent her 20s in December and since that date she had received only £2 15s.  She has four children, one over and three under sixteen years of age.

Defendant said he had been out of work and could not get the dole because he had not sufficient stamps on his card.

An order was made committing Turnbull to prison for three months, the order to be suspended in the event of defendant continuing to pay 25s a week from a fortnight hence.
