£447 Arrears

Wombwell Man Gaoled

Frederick Moorhead, 64, Gower Street, Wombwell, was summoned at Barnsley on Friday in respect of £447 2s. 6d., arrears which had accumulated under an affiliation order made against him on March 20th, 1929, at that court.

The Deputy Magistrates’ Clerk (Mr. L. Littlefair), explained that he had given Moorhead credit for £25 odd. arrears which had been cancelled when the defendant had been committed to prison, but there were still outstanding £447 2s. 6d., calculated at 7s. 6d. per week.

The last time he was committed the Bench ordered that the arrears should accumulate while he was in prison.

The Chairman (Mr. N. MeII): What have you to say?

Defendant: This child was put on me. She got me sent down for a month, and while I was in prison she got married.

The Deputy Clerk: Do you Intend to pay. You have never paid a single penny piece since the order was made?

Defendant: No.

The Chairman: Very well. You will be committed to prison for three months.
