Wombwell Hero Honoured

At the Wombwell Urban meeting on Tuesday, Mr. William Askew of Wombwell, late sapper. R. E. Was decorated with the Military Medal won by him in France in July, 1917, for gallantry rescuing comrades buried or threatened by exploding shells.

It was mentioned that Mr. Askew served three years in France, though well over military age, and that he had two sons at the frost, one of whom fell in action.
