Wombwell Girl’s Escape

Pattie Etherington (15), of Aldham Cottages, Barnsley Road, Wombwell, had a narrow escape yesterday, when a meat van owned by Barnsley Co-operative Society mounted the pavement and tore down gate-post and ten yards brick wall and iron palllsadlng in front of 34, Barnsley Road, Wombwell, the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Marrison, by whom she Is employed as a maid.

The girl had just entered the house when heavy coping stones were thrown against the door at her back.

The van had skidded on the icy road.
