Wombwell Council’s Approval of Scheme.

Wombwell Council have agreed to recommend the local Education Committee to adopt the proposals the West Riding Education Committee to proceed with the erection a senior, or middle, school at Goldthorpe to provide for to 950 scholars; and to press for the provision secondary school facilities in the district.

An application is being made to the Ministry for a loan  of £1,287 for market purposes, and it was reported that the Ministry have sanctioned the borrowing of £6,000 an as overdraft.

Councillor T. Wooley presented the Humane Society’s certificate on vellum to Harold Oughton, of Stoneyford road, Wombwell for rescuing a child from drowning in the canal at Wombwell in March. Mr. Wooley declared that the circumstances were particularly dangerous because the time the canal was covered with ice.
