Wombwell Catholic’s Homage

Large crowds assembled in the streets of Wombwell last night to witness the annual act of homage and procession arranged by the Roman Catholic Church of St Michael’s.

The statue of the Blessed Virgin, adorned with lilies, was carried from the schools at Low Valley to the site of the new church in Park Street Wombwell at the end of a long procession of white clad children and members of various church organisations.

The May Queen was Nancy Riley, seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs John Riley.

Father M Goaley conducted the ceremonies.
