Wombwell Bride Sails East

For Reunion in Hong Kong

Nineteen mouths ago, Miss Betty Taberner was married at Wombwell to Mr Maurice Penty, a soldier on embarkation way.

After only five days of married life the couple were parted when Copl. Penty sailed for Japan. They will be united in the near future and start their married life all over again. Mrs. Penty sails for Hong Kong on January 9th.

The “Empire Fowey” will take her on her 29 days’ voyage to the Far East. The couple are looking forward to about a year in Hong Kong and hope to be back in this country in time for Christmas, 1951.

It seems Mrs. Penty is following the tradition of the family. Her aunt, Mrs. Nellie Winder, emigrated to Australia a few months ago, and she has two uncles and an aunt living in America.

A dressmaker by trade Mrs. Penty has just left Messrs. Edward Smith and Sons, West Melton. She is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Taberner, 273, Hough Lane, Wombwell. Corporal Penty is also a local man, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Penty, of Elsecar.
