Briggs A Big Success As Leader Of Wombwell Attack.

Wombwell 3  York City Reserves 1

With a rearranged tea, Wombwell pulled off a brilliant 3 —1 victory over York City Reserves in a Midland League match at Wombwell yesterday.

One of the changes was the introduction of Briggs as leader of the attack. This alteration put new life into the vanguard, and with two new wingers in Waring and Ellis, there was a completely new method in the attack.

The game opened sensationally, with Briggs giving Wombwell the lead after thirty seconds. Hughes equalised half hour later, but this was quite against the run of the play. Murden put Wombwell ahead again with a magnificent shot ten minutes after resuming, and Briggs contributed the third.

From start to finish Wombwell were superior, both individually and as a team, at least two thirds of the game being played in the York quarters. Briggs was the outstanding man and good work was put in by Sykes, at centre half back.

Thornton, in goal, saved York from a heavy defeat
