Wombwell 3  Rotherham Town  0

Wombwell have never played better this season than they did yesterday on their own ground against Rotherham Town, whom they beat 3 – 0, this being the first match in which the visitors had lost a point.

Perfection in combination was the keynote in every department—a welcome contrast with the disappointing show given against Mansfield, by whom Wombwell were defeated on Saturday. The introduction of Willis, a Hemingfield youth, to the centre-forward position, and the exchange of Parton for Thomas at outside-right, worked wonders, and good work of the latter was indeed, the feature of the game. Play proceeded at a rapid pace throughout.

Rotherham about held their own until halftime, after which Wombwell had them well beaten. Shots were rained in upon Godfrey from all quarters, and only clever goalkeeping saved the visitors from a heavier defeat. Redfearn scored in the first half, and Foxall and Willis in the second.

Howson was a commanding figure in Wombwell’s defence, and Foxall, Redfearn, and Parton were prominent in attack. Rotherham were best served by Harrison and Elliott, their full-backs, and Godfrey.
