Wombwell’s ” Feast” Matches
Wombwell concluded their feast “programme of three home Midland League matches inside four days, by playing drawn game with Scunthorpe, before about 3,000 spectators, thus taking three and conceding three points out of the matches.
The game was a fine one. Meredith (Scunthorpe) made many capital runs on the right wing, and time after time lifted across excellent, centres. From one of these Scunthorpe took the lead after 30 minutes’ play through Gibson. Willis equalised in the second half, in which Wombwell had the greater share of the play.
It was superb goalkeeping and sound defence that prevented Wombwell from winning.
