Wombwell 1 Mexborough 1
Wombwell atoned for their failure in the F.A. Cup competition against Castleford Town at Castleford on Saturday by rousing display on their own ground against Mexboro’ last evening.
The game was played before a crowd of 3.000, the occasion being Wombwell “Feast.’
For Wombwell, George Smith was not available and the forward line had to be re-shuffled, with a local youth, L. Shaw, at outside-right. This proved to the weak element on the Wombwell side. The game was evenly contested and the result was fair index the run of the play.
Mexboro’ took the lead through Shaw after Smith had only partly got rid of a tame shot from Ashton. Five minutes later Wombwell equalised through Smith (N). Hatfield played splendid football for Wombwell while Beaumont was a master of tactics on the Mexboro’ side.
