Miss Phoebe Taberner, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Taberner, 95, Wombwell Main, was married by special licence at Wombwell Parish Church on Saturday to Mr. James Bowley, youngest son of Mr, and Mrs. James Bowley,80, Longfield Crescent, Hoyland.
The bridegroom is a lance-bombardier in the Royal Artillery, and before the outbreak of the present war had served five and a half years in China. He had four days’ special leave, was was married in uniform.
The service was conducted by the Rector of Wombwell, Canon J. St. Leger Blakeney. Given away by her father, the bride wore an embroidered wool costume with brown hat, shoes and gloves. Her buttonhole consisted of a white chrysanthemum are a Flanders poppy.
There were no bridesmaids. The bride’s mother was present in navy blue satin beaute, while the bridegroom’s mother had chosen a dress of London tan. Mr. Roy Fletcher, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, was best man.
