Wedding – Sykes & Hammond

The oldest man in Wombwell, Mr. Daniel Hammond, Hough Lane, who is in his ninetieth year, attended the wedding of his grandson at Wombwell Wesleyan Church on Wednesday. Mr. Hammond is a veteran Wesleyan.

The bride was Miss Mildred Sykes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Sykes, 33 Hough Lane, Wombwell, and the bridegroom Mr. Sydney Hammond, son of Mr. G. and the late Mrs. Hammond, 131 Hough Lane.

The Rev. A. R. Brockway officiated.

The bride was given away by her father and wore white satin beaute and carried red roses and white heather. The bridesmaids Misses Editha Bailey and Muriel Mellor, wore floral georgette of lemon shade and carried pink tulips and white heather.

Mr. Edwin Hammond was best man and Mr. Harry Pownall groomsman.

A reception was held in the Wesleyan School and the couple left for Blackpool. Among the many presents was a timepiece from the bridegroom’s colleagues on the staff at the Wombwell office of the Royal Victoria Insurance Company.
