Canadian Airman’s Bride
Hemingfield Village Ceremony
A romance of the airfield reached happy culmination at Hemingfield Methodist Church on Saturday in the marriage of Ft. Mechanic Joyce Stenton W.A.A.F., second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Stenton, 8, School Street, Hemingfield, to Pilot Officer Arthur Edward Bainard R.C.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Bainard, Sudbury, Ontario.
The couple met while they were serving at the same aerodrome, part of the bride’s duty then being to serve the plane on which her future husband was engaged in operations. A former pupil of Hemingfield Ellis School and of Barnsley Girls’ High School, the bride joined the W.A.A.F. fifteen months ago. She was previously employed by Messrs. Walker and Hall, of Sheffield. The bridegroom has been with the Royal Canadian Air Force in this country two years. Six fellow members of the bridegroom’s bomber crew attended he ceremony and Ft. Sgt. Gordon Whyte of the R.A.F. was best man.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin with long sleeves and high neck. She carried a bouquet of red rose buds and her veil fell from a coronet of orange blossom to form a train which was carried by Barbara and Donald Kilby. Bridesmaids were Miss Nellie Stenton, W.R.N.S., and Miss Joan Crawford. Groomsman was Mr. Derek Stenton, brother of the bride. Many villagers attended the ceremony and the reception in Hemingfield Church of England Schools.
The couple afterwards left for a honeymoon in London. They intend to settle in Canada after the war. Mr. and Mrs. Stenton have three sons and two daughters with the Forces, two of the sons being abroad
