Wedding – Skidmore & Evans
A well-known South Yorkshire cricketer, Edward Evans, of Mitchell Main, was married at Wombwell Parish Church on Monday.
The bride was Miss Emily Skidmore, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Skidmore, 12, Windmill Road, Wombwell. The bridegroom is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Evans of 54, Main Street, Wombwell. He has played for Mitchell Main for nine seasons, latterly in the Yorkshire Council and was a member of the Wombwell Thursday team that won the Div. B championships of the league. Cricketer friends attended the ceremony conducted by the Rev. J. St. Leger Blakeney.
The bride was prettily gowned in blue crepe with hat to match, and carried white chrysanthemums. There were were four bridesmaids, two elder ones, Misses Edith and Ethel Evans in lemon silk with fawn hats and two smaller maids, Eva Jenkinson and Eunice Skidmore, in foxglove pink crepe and silver leaf headdresses. The maids carried yellow and bronze chrysanthemums.
Mr. Jospeh Evans was best man and Mr Harold Evans groomsman. A reception was held at 54, Main Street. The bride is a well-known former member of the Wombwell Swimming Club and the winner of many swimming prizes.
