Wedding Gift by Mitchell Main Workmen
The bridal group at the wedding at Wombwell on Saturday of Mr. George Ernest Fisher, for the past eight years engineer at Mitchell Main Colliery, and Miss Sylvia Ogden, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Ogden, of Aldham House Farm, Wombwell. The bride’s family are well-known Wombwell farmers.
Mr. George Ernest Fisher, of Mitchell Main, Wombwell, for the past eight years engineer at Mitchell Main Colliery, was married at Wombwell Parish Church on Saturday to Miss Sylvia Ogden, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Ogden, of Aldham House Farm, Wombwell. The ceremony was conducted by the Rector of Wombwell, Canon J St. Leger Blakeney. Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of ice blue Swiss lace with hat to tone, the dress having a tight corsage and gill skirt. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations.
Two sisters of the bride, Misses Lena and Hilda Ogden, were bridesmaids, and they wore blue floral organdie and Juliet caps. Their bouquets were of carnations.
The best man was Mr. Robert Mannifield and the groomsmen were Mr. Frank Holmes, of Sheffield; Mr. Eric Brook, of Sheffield, and Mr. W. Millington, of Wath-on-Dearne.
The choir was attendance and Mr. Joseph Harrington was at the organ.
The bride’s mother wore a gown of cornflower blue with hat to tone and a spray of gardenias.
A large party gathered at the reception at the Three Cranes Hotel. Barnsley. The couple left for Torquay, the bride travelling in a saxe-blue suit with fox fur and navy blue hat and shoes.
The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a squirrel fur coat. He gave the bridesmaids enamel and gold dressing cases.
A silver tea service was presented to the couple by the surface workmen at Mitchell Main Colliery, while the boiler staff presented them with a dinner service.
The bride’s family are well-known Wombwell farmers.
