Teacher as Bride at Wombwell

A member of the staff of St. Mary’s R.C. Schools, Mortomley, near Sheffield, Miss Teresa Hyland, fifth daughter of Mr. and Mrs Thomas Hyland, of 5, Ings Road, Wombwell, was married at St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Wombwell, on New Year’s Day, to Mr John Anthony Roche, only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Roche, of 5, Stoneyford Road, Wombwell.

The bridegroom is a member of the committee of St. Michael’s Club. Wombwell, and prominently associated with St. Michael’s Church.

Nuptial Mass was performed by the Parish Priest, Father M Goaley, and the organ was played by Mrs. Goddard. Given away by her father, the bride wore a period gown of brocaded satin worked with silver thread and diamante. Her head-dress was of orange blossom and seed pearls and she had an embroidered veil. Her bouquet was of Madonna lilies and carnations. On the bouquet was a silver horseshoe decked with white heather.

There were three bridesmaids. The principal maid was Miss Norah Hyland (sister of the bride). She wore pink taffeta with mulberry velvet bows and a halo of anemones and pink roses. She carried a posy of variegated anemones. Two younger maids, Miss Veronica Hyland (sister of the bride) and Miss Mary Roche (sister of the bridegroom), also wore a shade of pink taffeta with embroidered boleros and head-dresses of silver plaited braid and silver shoes. They also carried posies of anemones.

The best man was Mr. John Hyland (brother of the bride) and the groomsman Mr Thomas Hyland (brother of the bride) The bride’s mother was present in a black floral dress with hat to tone, and Mr Roche had chosen a black two-piece with hat to match. The reception was held at the home of the bride. The couple are to live at Hough Lane. Wombwell. Colleagues of the bride at Mortomley St. Mary’s School bought her bed linen. These was a similar gift from the staff of St. Michael’s R.C. School, Wombwell.
