Miss Doris Mary Hall, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hall of Rose Cottage, Hoyland, was married at Hoyland St. Peter’s Church on Tuesday to Mr. Joseph Percival Charlesworth, oldest son of Mrs. Charlesworth and the late Mr. Jas. Charlesworth. of Townend Farm, Wombwell. The Rev E. B. Pratt officiated, and the service was choral with Mr Harold Hollingworth at the organ.
The bride was given away by her father and was attended by Miss Edith Fisher (cousin), and Miss Joan Walker, who received pearl necklets as gifts from the bridegroom.
Mr. R. H. Raper a member of Barnsley Town Council was best man and Mr. Graham Biddulph, groomsmen. The bride wore blue and silver lame cut on classical lines with flowing train, and silver lame toque with embroidered blue veil. She also wore a wristlet watch, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried pink roses.
Both bridesmaids wore peach silk net, trimmed with peach and blue lovers’ knots. There were also lovers’ knots in their headdresses, and their bouquets were of cream roses.
A reception was held at the John Knowles Memorial Church Schoolroom, the guests being received by the bride’s mother, who was wearing a silver grey gown, blue hat and grey squirrel coat, and carrying bronze chrysanthemums, The bridegroom’s mother wore us block ensemble with a bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums.
The bride and bridegroom left for Bournemouth where the honeymoon is being spent,
